Ancira Volunteers Helping to Build a Family’s Future.

32 Ancira employees worked all day Saturday - but not in their usual jobs.

They were roofing, siding, building the framework for hanging doors, painting – you name it.

They were part of an army of 500 volunteers working for Habitat for Humanity to build some 56 new homes in greater San Antonio.

Thanks in part to the Ancira volunteers’ efforts, a single mom with 4 kids, who is putting herself through college to become a physician’s assistant, will soon have a new home for her family!

Ancira employees worked beside half a dozen students from San Antonio College and 60 airmen from Lackland Air Force Base.

April Ancira brought her crew breakfast and lunch at the job site from Jason’s Deli. “She brought so much food that the other job site groups were coming over and sharing,” says Elizabeth Barrera who also volunteered that day.

It was yet another “Ancira Day from the Heart” – a tradition where Ancira’s employees and friends volunteer one Saturday a month to help local charities.

Elizabeth says, “It usually takes Habitat about 2 months to build a single home. They were a little behind schedule on this one, because it ‘s been raining, but the Ancira team was able to get so much done Saturday that the single family 3-bedroom home was ready for inspection the next day.”

“Habitat hopes to give Dianna Casso the new owner her keys in April... We’ll go back there for the ceremony.”

“I think we all had a few muscle aches that day, and some of us hammered on our fingers instead of the nails, but there were no trips to the hospital and we didn’t need to break out the first aid kit.”

“It was a really great experience for everyone involved!”
